Stop Looking

How many times do we find ourselves thinking that there's something missing? We seem to be always searching for that one thing but we can't put a finger on what it is.

You could be looking for friendship, or acceptance. Two things which don't come easy. Most of us look for love... but where can one find love? Does it make sense to hunt down a feeling?
You look for answers, for guidance, for signs that show you that you're doing things right. You look for approval. It's funny how we want the approval of the society we live in which, frankly, can be pretty messed up itself.

You could be looking for all these things or nothing at all. It gets all tangled up in your head and you can't figure out what you want or where you're going. You feel annoyed at yourself for not being like those people who are so sure of themselves, who know what they want. Then you feel angry and disappointed. You start shutting people out and feeling like you will never find your way.

But the truth is it's no use feeling this way. If we just let everything fall into place and take our journey a day at a time, we will finally end up where we wanted to be in the first place. So stop looking.

Cause in the end we don't know what we're looking for until we find it.

Things to do during SUMMER :)

**Before starting today's post; as promised a little update on the vegetarian diet... It's going really well, better than expected actually! If any of you wish to try it but are somewhat afraid, don't be! It's quite easy once you start. Just be sure to add food that you particularly like in your diet at first to keep yourself distracted from the fact that you're not eating meat :).**

So... the time all students long for has arrived. It's summer 2013! I must admit, I'm not quite feeling that summery vibe yet but I guess it'll come soon enough. All of us like to make plans for these few months since we are free and we have much more time on our hands. There are those plans which seem to be there every summer, no matter how many years go by. Some such plans, for me, are watching movies/series, going out as much as possible, shopping, eating ice-cream (that's a must) and reading. Now, I am quite sure that all of you out there have a very long list of series they want to watch but here are a few suggestions...

  1. Pretty Little Liars (quite girly but I would classify it under mystery/drama/romance)
  2. New Girl (the plot is simple but the characters are very amiable - comedy/romance)
  3. Suits (only started it recently but it looks quite good. It is a drama and follows the story of 2 lawyers)
  4. Game of Thrones (I've heard a lot about this series and I think I'll be starting it soon enough - Fantasy)
  5. Arrow (I just loved this series as soon as I started it - Action/Drama/Mystery)
I know that I left out some amazing series but I thought of mentioning some of the series which I am currently watching/started recently/will start soon. Oh and I also left out the period dramas because as I said previously I will be dedicating a post specifically to them.

Then there are those plans which I added to the above list this year. This year I want to start writing a journal, I've attempted this many times but I have never kept writing on a daily basis. I also want to take more photos, especially when I'm out with my friends. I am not really fond of swimming (weird, I know) but this year I'm going to make an effort and go to the beach more often, even if I simply stay sunbathing and reading. Summer months are also ideal for evening walks. So I think it would be a lovely idea to take such walks with a friend or maybe a parent. Me and my best friend also decided to have a Disney-movie marathon.. you know bringing back childhood memories and all that. Oh.. and finally it's also a good idea to try and get slimmer during summer (if you need it) since you would have more time to prepare healthy meals and exercise.

I hope this post helped you in finding new things to do this summer! Until next time x.

Vegetarians

Now this is a post which I would have never thought of writing. Till this day, I am not a vegetarian myself although I have a really high esteem for people who are.

Yesterday I read a post by my lovely friend Jess Edwards (who is a vegetarian herself)(http://justalittlesomething26.blogspot.com/) and it got me thinking. In her post she added a link to http://www.meat.org/ which includes a video about slaughterhouses and what advantages there are to being a vegetarian. I must say the video shocked me very much and I have decided to pledge to try a vegetarian diet for 30 days (the pledge is also a part of the link above).

I do realise that this is not a decision that one takes from one day to the next. For a person who has been eating meat all her life, it is difficult to suddenly remove all meat products from her diet. This is why I have decided to try this 30-day 'trial'. It is easier to think that it will only last for a short period at first, or at least that's what I think. I think that one of the main difficulties with becoming a vegetarian is the fact that people around you still eat meat. If I do actually become a vegetarian, I know that my family will still eat meat and I will have to find alternative meals to eat. I must admit, I thought my mother was going to be less understanding about the subject but when I talked to her about it she was quite comprehensive and that gave me greater courage. I am also going to add another link which I have found very helpful ... there are a number of recipes and products which a vegetarian can consume listed here: http://features.peta.org/VegetarianStarterKit/.

I mainly decided to write this post to create awareness that it is a myth that animals are killed in a humane and painless way for their meat. Apart from this, I would like to invite any of you who are reading this post to at least try the 30-day pledge. I will keep you updated with how my meat-less diet is going. If any of you try this or are already a vegetarian, I would really like to read your comments on the topic or any useful tips you might have :).

Today's song has nothing to do with what I wrote but this is another group which I find absolutely amazing!

Till next time xx

Something about me

Today I thought of introducing myself.

First of all, I am an 18-year-old student who has just sat for her A' level exams .... Hallelujah they're over now!! I live in a tiny country called Malta; an island right in the middle of the Mediterranean. There are a lot of things which I like and I thought of mentioning some of them below.

I love music. All kinds of it. Music is that one thing which is constantly there, it helps you, it relieves you. Nothing, except music, can make me feel so sad or so happy in an instant. There is something magical in having a melody and maybe some words to go with it, which are able to communicate so much and yet seem so simple. I always wonder... what would the world be like without music? I'd say it would be a living hell.

Then, there's movies. I must admit, I am quite a hopeless romantic. I just can't help it! Every time  I try to decide upon a movie to watch, I end up going for that classic love story or that heartbreaking tale. Oh, but I cannot forget my absolute favorite kind of movies. I am a HUGE sucker for period dramas. The lovely Jane Austen stories or maybe a nice BBC drama ... that's all I need any day, everyday. I intend to write another post dedicated to period dramas in the future. I'll make a small list of dramas which, in my opinion, are the best around.

More than movies, I adore books. When I watch a movie, I am simply witnessing someone else's idea of the story line. When reading a book I am free to imagine the scenes, the characters, the places as if I have created them myself. Very few novel-based movies live up to the expectations of viewers who have read the book. Why? I think it's because they are rarely as fascinating as that little story you yourself have made up. Books transport me to another world. A world very different from my own. A world which makes me feel lost. But being lost was never quite as lovely.

Then there are those other little things that I love, like shopping or daydreaming or travelling or simply laughing. But above all, I love life! (Yes, I know it's a cheesy line :P!)
Song today : Mumford and Sons - Lover of the Light.
That's it for today! x

Prologue

So, this is it! My very first post!

I think that in the first post, one tries to define his/her blog ... to give it an identity. Honestly, I have no idea what I will be writing about or what the purpose of this blog is. I guess it is just a way to talk without actually talking or maybe it is just a way for me to open up. Some things are better expressed when written than when they are said aloud. Although I think that my blog will not be specific to one subject, I have made up my mind that at the end of each post I will post a song.

The song will most probably be something I would be listening to repeatedly at the time and something which  reflects the mood I'm in while writing the post. In fact, I think that the reason why I do not wish to bind this blog to something particular is because I want it to be constantly changing. Like moods. No one and nothing remains the same forever. We all change, whether we like it or not. Sometimes we choose to deny that we are becoming different people. In my opinion, this is what sets most people back ... the reluctance to change. Change is not necessarily a bad thing and so there is no need to fear what lies ahead just because it's different.

This blog is something far from what I'm used to doing. Speaking publicly is certainly not my forte but writing may be a different story. I guess what I am trying to say is that I do actually have high hopes for this blog. Maybe starting a blog is not such a pointless idea. Maybe it will lead to something bigger and better, although I do not know what that something might be. Speaking of high hopes ... there's this one song which comes to mind which I would like to share with you! If you have never heard of this band, go check them out, you won't regret it!

Until next time x
